Fall 2026 Large Ensemble Auditions

Welcome to auditions for Bands and Orchestra, Fall 2026. Learning to audition is an important part of the educational process for every student. To maximize this opportunity, we encourage you to adequately allow yourself the time to prepare the audition material to the best of your ability.

Please read the information on this webpage thoroughly, and if you have questions, never hesitate to ask.

For most woodwind and brass instruments, there are two sets of excerpts –be sure to look at each packet and make sure you prepare the correct set. 

Note:  All music majors and non-majors receiving a band scholarship/stipend must perform the wind ensemble/symphonic band music:

• Excerpts for placement consideration in Wind Ensemble/Symphony Orchestra+/Symphonic Band (one set of excerpts for all three of the above ensembles).
• Excerpts for placement in Concert Band only

If you are a WW/Brass and desire to audition for both Band and Orchestra placement, you will have one audition during the assigned instrument block; please refer to the audition sign-up sheets when posted August 5.

FALL 2026 AUDITION SCHEDULE

Auditions will be heard by the instrumental conducting faculty and applicable studio faculty; hence, this process makes alternative audition times difficult to schedule. If it is impossible for you to make the assigned instrumental block, an approval must be made in advance of the audition day.

Ensemble Information

Wind Ensemble

Rehearsal Schedule: Tuesday/Thursday, 2:25–4:15 p.m.

The Wind Ensemble is the premier concert band at the University of Tennessee and performs advanced repertoire for winds and percussion.

Symphonic Band

Rehearsal Schedule: Monday/Wednesday/Friday, 12:40–1:30 p.m.

The Symphonic Band performs a wide variety of standard and contemporary wind literature.

Concert Band

Rehearsal Schedule: Monday/Wednesday/Friday, 12:40–1:30 p.m.

The Concert Band provides students with the opportunity to continue performing high-quality wind repertoire in a collaborative ensemble setting.

University Band

Rehearsal Schedule: Monday, 6–7:30 p.m. (Spring semester only)

University Band provides students with the opportunity to continue performing in a concert ensemble in a supportive and collaborative setting.

Audition Process

All ensembles are open to students by audition.

• Students may audition for placement in more than one ensemble level as appropriate
• Current Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band members re-audition each semester for placement
• New students are welcome to audition
• University Band audition materials are the same as Concert Band materials
