Master of Music in Jazz Studies
This program is designed for accomplished jazz musicians who intend to pursue careers as performers or teachers in the field of jazz.
Entrance Requirements
- An audition is required prior to admission. An audition in person is preferable, but if this is not possible a recording may be uploaded to the online application to the College of Music. The applicant will be expected to demonstrate the ability to improvise on a variety of tune-types and display a well-developed instrumental ability.
- Applicants should have completed a bachelor’s degree in music from an accredited institution with course work equivalent to that in bachelor’s degrees conferred by the University of Tennessee.
- Diagnostic examinations in music theory and musicology must be taken by all entering students before registering for courses. If deficiencies are determined, specific courses may be recommended or required.
