Associate Director of Advancement
Description
The University of Tennessee Foundation, Inc (UTFI) invites applications and nominations to fill the position of Associate Director of Advancement, College of Music for the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Reporting to the Director of Advancement, the Associate Director of Advancement is responsible for leading the College of Music (COM) annual giving and stewardship initiatives, scholarship tracking, and advancement event coordination.
Qualifications
The candidate who fills the Associate Director of Advancement position is required to have:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Four or more years of work experience in alumni affairs, donor relations, event coordination or related experience. Candidates holding a graduate degree must have two or more years of experience in the specified areas.
- Exceptionally strong oral and written communications skills, including editing and writing experience across long- and short-form pieces.
- Strong project management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working collaboratively with other office professionals, faculty, staff, students, guests, and external partners.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize, as well as ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience with industry-standard office management tools including Microsoft Office suite, Wordpress, etc.
Lecturer of Opera Theatre
Description
We’re seeking a dedicated Lecturer for a nine-month non-tenure-track appointment starting August 1, 2024. In this role, you’ll work closely with the UTOT Music Director to oversee various facets of our esteemed program. From directing and producing two full-staged operas annually to managing the opera budget, teaching a graduate-level course on acting/stagecraft, and spearheading professional, educational, and community outreach initiatives, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of opera education and performance. Qualifications
Required: Masters Degree or equivalent in professional experience. Substantial experience as an opera director is required, including work with Young Artist programs or in an academic setting. Experience managing budgets and overseeing theatrical productions. Commitment to provide students at the undergraduate and graduate levels with a secure technical foundation in dramatic skills through curricular, and workshop classes as well as through production preparation. Demonstrated excellence as a collaborator with colleagues in both the professional and academic setting.
Preferred: Experience in a university/conservatory setting.
Assistant Director, Student Engagement
As a member of the COM undergraduate admissions and student success team, the Assistant Director of Student Engagement will report to the Director of Admissions & Student Success and will be responsible for implementing student retention strategies,, co-directing the COM Student Ambassador program, mentoring first-year students, teaching and/or co-teaching one or multiple sections of the COM First-Year Studies seminar classes, and co-directing the Crescendo Living and Learning Community. The Assistant Director will also serve as the administrator of the University Community Music School (CMS) and the policy manager for Conflict of Interest (COI) in the College of Music (COM).
This person must be highly organized, have excellent oral and written communication skills, be able to work with a wide variety of people, and be capable of managing numerous projects at one time. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor level degree or equivalent in music, education, communication, PR, student affairs, or related field with 1-2 years in higher education recruiting, student success, engagement or related field.
Preferred Qualifications: Master level Degree in music, education, communication, PR, student affairs, or related field with 5-7 years in higher education recruiting, student success, engagement or related field.
Lecturer of Musicology/Historical Musicology/Ethnomusicology, Fall 2024
Description
Nine-month, non-tenure-track, one-year appointment beginning August 1, 2024. Salary and fringe benefits are competitive and commensurate with rank and experience. Teach review courses in musicology for incoming graduate students. Teach musicology courses for music majors, with a significant writing component, especially required courses in western art music (particularly 18th through 20th centuries) at the sophomore level. Selected service duties, to include participation in college committees, or as needed in support of the Academic Division and Musicology Area. Other teaching duties, primarily at the undergraduate level, are based on the successful candidate’s areas of specialty. University of Tennessee’s musicology unit is an integrated program in historical musicology and ethnomusicology; teaching approaches that blend these methodologies and that encourage interdisciplinary thinking are welcome.
Qualifications
Required:
1. Doctorate in historical musicology or ethnomusicology required by time of appointment
2. Proven success in teaching at the college/university level with ability to foster students’ critical thinking and academic writing
3. Facility in teaching western art music of various style periods
Preferred:
1. Ability to teach a sophomore-level ethnomusicology class on music and society
2. Expertise to teach special topics courses in areas that complement those of the existing faculty
3. Teaching areas that invite interdisciplinary student participation
4. Teaching abilities in a non-canonical or non-western music performance area
