We have a number of resources available for students, faculty and staff, including:
- Smokey’s Pantry offers free food and hygiene products to students, faculty, and staff. No ID or qualifying information is required. Smokey’s Pantry opened in January 2016 as an effort to help address food insecurity among students, faculty, and staff. Address: 824 Melrose Place, Knoxville, TN, 37916 near the end of Lake Avenue.
- The Big Orange Pantry provides emergency food assistance for students, faculty, and staff attending or employed by the UT. The Big Orange Pantry opened in the fall of 2020 to help meet the increase in short-term meal assistance program demand and basic needs assistance requests. Located in the Student Union, Suite 376C, Monday – Friday, 12:00-5:30. [email protected]
- Big Orange Meal Share is a short-term meal assistance program sponsored by the Office of the Dean of Students, Vol Dining, and Swipe Out Hunger. Need temporary assistance in obtaining meals? This assistance program allocates meals to students in need. Big Orange Meal Share is also available during summer semester(s) and winter break. Questions about the program? - The Center for Health Education and Wellness empowers all Volunteers to thrive by cultivating personal and community well-being. The Center for Health Education acknowledges that health and wellness is multifaceted and aims to promote well-being across eight dimensions of wellness. We prioritize risk reduction and develop programming based on national research and data collected from our Volunteer community that address interpersonal wellness, alcohol and substance use, and general health and wellness.
- The Counseling Center is the university’s primary resource for mental health care and support and is committed to providing high-quality care and services to all UT students regardless of race, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, gender expression, physical ability, personal creeds or spiritual beliefs, national origin, or socioeconomic status They provide culturally responsive counseling services, exemplifying a welcoming, compassionate presence within the Volunteer community.
- Are you or a fellow Vol in distress? If so, call 865-974-HELP (4357) or complete the referral form. Online referral form submissions are processed Monday- Friday 8:00 am- 4:30 pm. If you have an immediate/ urgent need, please call 865-974-4357(HELP) to speak with someone 24/7.
- The Center for Care & Resilience team works collaboratively with students and the university to support individuals who are experiencing distress in their lives. Their website contains a number of resources for help. If you would like to talk with someone confidentially, please contact the Student Counseling Center at 865-974-2196 or after hours call 974-4357 (HELP).
- Smokey’s Closet provides free, gently used professional clothing and accessories to ALL students. They are located in the Student Union Room 376C. Email: [email protected] (865) 974-0858 Open Monday- Friday 12:00 pm – 5:30 pm during the semester.
- Basic Needs Emergency Fund provides financial assistance to support or give access to a student’s basic needs (physiological or safety/security). This fund is very limited and based on EMERGENCY need listed in the guidelines.
