Master of Music in Performance – Winds or Percussion
This program is designed for accomplished instrumentalists who intend to pursue careers as performers or teachers. Graduates of this program are qualified to pursue doctoral work in their area of specialization.
Entrance Requirements
- An audition is required prior to admission. An audition in person is preferable, but if this is not possible a recording may be uploaded to the online College of Music application. The applicant will be expected to demonstrate the ability to perform major works from standard repertoire, including orchestral excerpts.
- Applicants should have completed a bachelor’s degree in music from an accredited institution with course work equivalent to that in bachelor’s degrees conferred by the University of Tennessee, including substantial study and performing experience on the principal instrument.
- Diagnostic examinations in music theory and musicology must be taken by all entering students before registering for courses. If deficiencies are determined, specific courses may be recommended or required.

Students are required to enroll in lessons concurrently with Mus Gen 501 Graduate Recital.
