Double Majors
We want you to achieve your dreams, whether those dreams include or extend beyond music. With music’s innate elements of the arts, humanities, and sciences, music can be combined with virtually any other field of study, and the results often lead to innovation that shapes the future. Our students have completed double majors or major/minor combinations in music and other academic fields such as engineering, pre-health, and English. We also have students who choose a double concentration in two fields of music – for example, Music Education and Music Performance, or Composition and Studio Music & Jazz. It’s also possible to minor in music or in another academic field. As your unique skillset inspires the continued expansion in the music field, we are here to help you reach your potential and fulfill your dreams!
We support your desire to double major, but it is important to know that each combination of majors requires special consideration. Many majors pair easily with a music degree, but careful planning is necessary to align all major requirements with the music classes in your course of study. Your advisor will work with you to determine the feasibility of a double major. We want to help you actively plan and achieve your goals.
Due to the frequently heavier workload of a double major, we suggest our Bachelor of Arts degrees for students pursuing double majors. These degrees offer more flexibility than Bachelor of Music degrees making them easier to pair with a non-music field.
