Welcome to the UT Percussion Studio!
The Percussion Studio at the University of Tennessee is dedicated to developing well-rounded, forward-thinking percussionists who are equally skilled as performers, educators, researchers, and more. With individualized attention and a broad curriculum, students gain the versatility needed to succeed in today’s diverse musical landscape.

Academics
Percussion students at UT engage in focused study across solo, chamber, jazz, orchestral, and world music traditions. Our program emphasizes both musical excellence and cultural context, preparing students to become complete musicians.
Undergraduate Programs
Students in the Percussion Studio may pursue a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, Music Performance, or Theory & Composition.
The Natalie L. Haslam College of Music also offers Bachelor of Arts in Music concentrations, and BA students have the option to take applied lessons as part of a studio experience.
Graduate Programs
Graduate students may pursue a Master of Music in Music Education or Music Performance with percussion as their primary area of study.
Graduate Artist Certificate
Designed for highly accomplished performers seeking to refine their artistry, the Graduate Artist Certificate offers advanced study as a stand-alone program.

Performance Opportunities
Percussion students at UT perform in a variety of settings – from orchestral and jazz to chamber and global traditions. They play with major ensembles like the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, and Jazz ensembles, and participate in specialized groups including Ensemble Knox, the UT Chamber Percussion Ensemble, and the UT African Diasporic Percussion Ensemble, which features the UT Steelband. These experiences help students grow as versatile, collaborative, and culturally aware musicians.

Graduate Teaching Assistantships
The Natalie L. Haslam College of Music offers a number of graduate teaching assistantships each academic year.
Assistantships carry a waiver of the university tuition, pays for mandatory university fees, medical coverage, and carries a monthly stipend.
