Middle School Band Camp
Spend three exciting days making music at the University of Tennessee. Designed for rising 7th and 8th graders, the inaugural Middle School Band Camp brings together young woodwind, brass, and percussion students for ensemble rehearsals, musical growth, and a final concert in the Natalie L. Haslam Music Center.

The Natalie L. Haslam College of Music invites rising 7th and 8th grade musicians to campus for the inaugural Middle School Band Camp at the University of Tennessee. This three-day summer experience is designed for middle school woodwind, brass, and percussion students who want to grow as performers, make music with peers, and learn from university faculty and students in an encouraging ensemble setting.
Camp will conclude with a final concert on Friday, June 5 at 6:30 p.m. Family members, friends, and directors are invited to attend the camp’s concluding performance!

Who Should Attend?
Middle school band students with experience on a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument are encouraged to participate. Students should be rising 7th or 8th graders. This camp is a great fit for students who want to:
- strengthen their musical skills in a fun summer setting
- perform in an ensemble with other young musicians
- learn from experienced educators and university musicians
- spend time on a college campus dedicated to music
Meet your Camp Directors

Jenny Cross serves as Director of Admissions and Student Engagement for the Natalie L. Haslam College of Music, where she leads recruitment, admissions, and student engagement efforts. A two-time University of Tennessee graduate, she holds degrees in vocal music education and choral conducting. With more than 16 years of experience working with middle school, high school, and college students, she is passionate about creating welcoming experiences and helpful resources for students and families. Maddy Walker serves as Assistant Director of Recruitment for the Natalie L. Haslam College of Music and is currently pursuing a doctorate in Higher Education Administration at the University of Tennessee. She holds degrees in music performance from Iowa State University and George Mason University. With experience in student engagement, admissions, and higher education, Walker works closely with prospective students and families throughout the admissions process and is passionate about helping Music Vols find their place at UT. John Zastoupil joined the University of Tennessee in 2022 as Director of Bands and Associate Professor of Music. He conducts the acclaimed Wind Ensemble, teaches graduate courses in wind studies, leads the wind conducting program, and oversees all aspects of UT’s historic band program. Ashley Waller serves as Business Manager for the UT Band Program, overseeing logistics and operations for ensembles including the Pride of the Southland Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and pep bands. Before joining the University of Tennessee, she spent 19 years teaching middle and high school band in Knoxville. During her time at Halls High School, her students consistently earned superior ratings and had opportunities to perform at destinations such as Disney World, Universal Studios, and the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in Chicago.
