All music majors are assigned an advisor based on their degree. Students are encouraged to schedule an advising appointment with their advisor each semester they are enrolled in the College. Most academic advising is accomplished through the student’s advisor, but, when necessary, academic questions may be directed to the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Professor Allison Adams. Students are required to meet with their advisor each semester until they have completed 30 credit hours at UT, at which time they will be required to meet one semester per academic year.
A typical advising appointment will provide:
- A thorough consideration of all aspects of the student’s educational experience at the university.
- A review and evaluation of the student’s overall progress toward a degree. Students will review their Degree Audit Reporting System (i.e. DARS) report and graduation timeline with the advisor.
- A detailed outline of the courses for which the student is to register in the succeeding semester.
- Answers to questions the student may have concerning policies, degree requirements, etc.
- Students are welcome to set up advising appointments outside of their required advising schedule to discuss potential changes to their program, academic plans, or any other relevant concerns.
See the University Registrar’s Academic Calendar for important dates regarding registration.
