Biography

Professor Shawn Turner is an alumnus of the University of Tennessee College of Music, having completed a degree in Studio Music and Jazz. Having achieved teacher certification, he taught middle and high school chorus in the Knox County Schools and continues to lead community choruses, serving as Director of the Appalachian Sessions Choir and Assistant Director of the Knoxville Opera Gospel Choir. He is the lead male vocalist and keyboardist in Pinky Ring, a local professional jazz quintet, and regularly performs classic and modern R&B, Funk, and Soul music with various local bands. Turner is also an Artist in Residence at the Old City Performing Arts Center, where he has been featured in several productions. He has over twenty years of experience in church music ministry and currently serves as the Music Director at St. John Baptist Church (Alcoa) and leads worship at Middlebrook Pike United Methodist Church.
