Biography

Maddy serves as the Assistant Director of Recruitment for the Natalie L. Haslam College of Music and is a doctoral candidate in the Higher Education Administration program at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Born and raised in the rural community of De Soto, Iowa, Maddy received her bachelor’s degree in music performance, studying oboe, from Iowa State University and a master’s degree in music performance from George Mason University.

During her master’s program, Maddy began working for the Reva and Sid Dewberry School of Music in Fairfax, Virginia where she fell in love with her administrative role in higher education. She began her time at UTK in Honors and Scholars as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the fall of 2022 before serving at the Herbert College of Agriculture as the Student Life Coordinator, where she led student-facing initiatives and programs such as the Herbert Life LLC, Herbert College Connect, Herbert LLC Peer Mentors, and the Undergraduate and Graduate Student Advisory Councils. In addition to her background in student engagement and admissions, she has taught two professional development courses at UTK, creatively harnessing her experience in higher education to better prepare undergraduate students for post-graduation success. Maddy is passionate about her work at the Natalie L. Haslam College of Music, serving as a student advocate and leading all prospective MusicVols through the admissions process.

When Maddy is not on campus, she can be spotted with Winnie, her beloved Golden Retriever, playing fetch at local parks!
