Designed for highly accomplished performers seeking to refine their artistry, the Artist Certificate offers advanced study in one of several performance areas: brass, keyboard, strings, voice, winds, or percussion. Students receive individual instruction, perform in solo and ensemble settings, and work closely with artist faculty in their area. The Artist Certificate is a stand-alone program.

The Graduate Vocal Pedagogy Certificate offers singers an immersive and flexible opportunity to refine their teaching expertise and deepen their understanding of vocal technique and pedagogy. 

Through comprehensive coursework and hands-on training, students gain the tools and experience needed to thrive in the vocal studio or classroom—whether as future voice teachers, choral directors, or educators inspiring the next generation of vocalists.

Music Theory Pedagogy Graduate Certificate

This certificate is designed for musicians who want to gain specialized training in the teaching of music theory. It is available to current Master of Music students at the University of Tennessee or to those who already hold a master’s degree in music. 

The program consists of 15 credit hours of coursework in analysis, music technology, and music theory pedagogy, along with a final teaching project. At least 3 credit hours must be earned outside of the requirements of the student’s current degree or other certificates. 

This certificate prepares students with the knowledge and practical experience needed to teach music theory effectively at the high school or undergraduate level.
