Undergraduate
Our undergraduate voice offerings provide a solid foundation in vocal technique, musicianship, and performance, preparing students for a wide range of careers in music.
Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance
Designed for students pursuing a professional performance career, this degree emphasizes vocal mastery, stage experience, and artistic development.
Bachelor of Music in Music Education (Vocal Emphasis)
This program prepares students to become certified music educators with a strong foundation in vocal technique, pedagogy, and ensemble leadership.
Bachelor of Arts in Music Concentrations
The Music, BA concentrations at the Natalie L. Haslam College of Music allow students to study music through an interdisciplinary lense. Students may still take applied lessons and audition for the UT Voice Studio.
Graduate Program
The Master of Music (MM) in Voice Performance at the University of Tennessee offers advanced vocal training designed to bridge academic study with real-world experience. Central to the graduate experience is the Knoxville Opera Studio (KOS), a unique partnership that provides students with professional-level opportunities both on campus and through Knoxville Opera. Graduate students may perform principal roles in UT Opera Theatre productions, sing supporting or cover roles with Knoxville Opera, participate in educational outreach, and join the Knoxville Opera professional chorus. Through KOS, students receive intensive performance training while developing the skills needed to thrive in the professional world.


Graduate Certificate Programs in Voice
Graduate Artist Certificate in Voice
This one- or two-year program offers advanced singers the opportunity to refine their technical and artistic skills with a focus on performance mastery and individual goals. Designed to prepare students for professional auditions and competitions, the certificate also provides access to audition for the Knoxville Opera Studio, offering valuable experience in supporting roles, outreach, chorus work, and masterclasses.

Graduate Vocal Pedagogy Certificate
Offered fully online or in person, this flexible certificate program is ideal for singers seeking to deepen their teaching expertise in both private studio and classroom settings. It can be completed as a standalone credential or alongside the MM degree and includes comprehensive coursework and hands-on training to equip the next generation of vocal educators and choral directors.

Choral Opportunities at UT
UT’s choral ensembles provide a dynamic space to grow as an artist, connect with others, and experience the joy of making music together. Open to all students – regardless of major or prior experience – our choirs include Chamber Singers, Concert Choir, Men’s Chorale, Women’s Chorale, Gospel Choir, and UT Singers. Students earn academic credit while performing diverse choral repertoire and building lasting friendships through shared musical experiences.

Graduate Teaching Assistantships
The Natalie L. Haslam College of Music offers a number of graduate teaching assistantships each academic year.
Assistantships carry a waiver of the university tuition, pays for mandatory university fees, medical coverage, and carries a monthly stipend.
