Biography

Marissa Brown is the Events Coordinator and Graduate Specialist at the University of Tennessee’s Natalie L. Haslam College of Music. Here she plans, executes, and oversees events throughout the College and supports graduate students on their path to graduation. As part of the NLHCOM’s Marketing and Communication team, Marissa collaborates closely with the Office of Admissions & Student Engagement and Office of Advancement to ensure a consistent and high-impact College of Music experience across events. In her work supporting the Office of Graduate Studies, she assists students with the process toward graduation, including comprehensive exams, graduation applications, and more. She brings a detail-oriented, person-focused approach to both departments. 

Though not a trained musician herself, Marissa participated in years of musical theater and has a lifelong love for music. With a professional background in social work, where she discovered her knack for event planning and coordination, Marissa appreciates opportunities for connection and relationship building in her work. She was drawn to the College of Music because of the collaborative spirit of its student, staff, and faculty.

She is excited to be back at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville after a short departure following the completion of her bachelor’s degrees. She was awarded dual degrees in biological anthropology and psychology from the College of Arts and Sciences in 2023. In her time as an undergraduate at UT Knoxville, she was a member of Phi Eta Sigma Honor’s Society and the Undergraduate Association of Forensic Scientists. She could frequently be found at events hosted by the Pride Center or CEB. 

In her free time, Marissa can be found engaging in one of her thousand hobbies. If she’s not reading, sewing, baking, or gaming, she’s discovering new coffee shops with friends, over-analyzing song lyrics, or lounging around with her two dogs, Piper and Callie.
