Knoxville Opera Studio

Professional Experience and Community Service

The Knoxville Opera Studio (KOS) is the bridge that joins the Knoxville Opera and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s Master of Music degree program in vocal performance. This comprehensive training program offers professional operatic experience to singers who will be engaged in advanced study at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The KOS brings developing singers into direct working contact with active artists in the professional operatic world. Some KOS students will receive a graduate teaching assistantship (GTA) which provides full tuition remission throughout the University for two full years as well as a monthly stipend and the University’s student health insurance. In addition to their duties through the KOS, GTA’s may also teach young singers in both private studios and group settings. Through the existence of the KOS, all graduate students have opportunities to audition for secondary and supporting roles in the main stage productions of the Knoxville Opera (KO) as repertoire selections allow, perform in other KO events, participate in community and educational outreach events for the company and University, and take leading roles with the University of Tennessee Opera Theatre.
