Haslam College of Music admissions audition process.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Auditions are offered in both in-person and virtual formats. Recorded Natalie L. Haslam College of Music auditions will also be considered for Pride of the Southland membership and marching band scholarships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Undergraduate Non-Music Majors<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students who are not majoring in music may still audition for the Pride of the Southland Marching Band. All new members must have applied to, or been accepted by, the University of Tennessee before auditioning. Audition requirements vary by section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignfull utkwds-accordion-group has-light-background-color has-background has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--small);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--small)\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-utk-wds-accordion\"><div data-accordion=\"true\" class=\"utk-wds-accordion-wrapper\" data-color-scheme=\"medium\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-utk-wds-accordion-panel\"><h2 class=\"utk-wds-accordion__heading\" data-accordion-heading=\"true\"><div>Woodwinds and Brass<\/div><\/h2><section data-accordion-section=\"true\"><div class=\"utk-wds-accordion__panel-body\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">New non-music major woodwind and brass students must submit a video audition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-normal-font-size\">Video Audition Deadline for Fall 2027<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To be determined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-normal-font-size\">Audition Requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Introduction<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Begin your video with a short introduction that includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Name<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hometown<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>High school<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Music selections you will perform<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your most memorable band experience<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Why you want to be a member of the Pride<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Chromatic Scale<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perform a two-octave chromatic scale ascending and descending in quarter notes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Applicants should:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Choose an octave range that fits their instrument<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Articulate each note<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mark time while playing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Position the camera so both embouchure and feet are visible<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Performance Excerpts<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prepare:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>One technical excerpt<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One lyrical excerpt<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each excerpt should be approximately 2\u20133 minutes in length and may come from:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A prepared solo<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A method book<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Honor band audition music<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tennessee All-East excerpts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Recording Guidelines<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Combine your introduction, scale, and excerpts into one video<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Videos may be edited together from multiple takes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use an unlisted YouTube link<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Include your first and last name in the video description<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Position the camera to clearly show your embouchure, hands, and instrument<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Applicants will submit their video link through the Pride audition form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Review of audition videos will begin shortly after the deadline, and notifications of acceptance will begin near April 1. The undergraduate application deadline is December 15, with a November 1 deadline for scholarship consideration.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students interested in the Pride of the Southland should complete the appropriate audition process outlined above.
