The BA degree provides an appropriate background for prospective candidates for advanced degrees who are preparing for such careers as musicologists, composers, music librarians, arts administrators, and music therapists.
Music Business Administration
Housed in the UT School of Music, this exciting new BA degree contains a mix of coursework from music and the Haslam College of Business. Students take 8 hours of music “Performance Electives” (i.e. applied lessons, ensembles, or a combination of both) as well as a core in music theory, musicology, music technology, music business, and flexible music electives based on interests and career goals. On the business side, students select from one of two tracks – Professional Music Focus or Entrepreneurship in Music Focus – and they take courses in topics such as management, finance, legal environments in business, entrepreneurship, and new venture planning. The capstone requirement includes an independent project in music business and entrepreneurship, a fusion of the two concentrations of the degree.

Academic Common Market
Since this is a unique degree program, students may be eligible for the Academic Common Market (ACM), where they are eligible to study in a specialized field at an out-of-state college and pay in-state tuition rates. Out-of-state students accepted into the program are encouraged to contact their state ACM office to find out whether the program would be eligible for ACM status in their home state.
Students can find their state ACM office through this website: http://home.sreb.org/acm/states.aspx
