UT Jazz Festival

violinThe 7th annual UT Jazz Festival will be held on Saturday, March 4th, 2023. As in the past this will be a non-competitive festival. We hope all groups will come planning to have a fun and impactful jazz experience receiving input on their performances, in the improvisation workshops, and in the afternoon concert.

Performance Opportunities

Each ensemble will be given a 30-minute time period to perform and receive an on-stage clinic (15-20 min. performance and 10-15 min. clinic) in addition to written feedback from the clinicians. Ensembles will perform in either the Orchestra Room (NHMC 110) or Band Room (NHMC 135). Warm-up spaces furnished with music stands, chairs, and limited rhythm section equipment will be provided, and each performance venue will have a drum set, vibraphone, bass and guitar amps, and a grand piano.

Workshops

The afternoon workshops will be divided into 3 groups: middle school improvisation, high school improvisation, and rhythm sections. All students will be asked to bring their instruments and be prepared to play. Directors and parents are invited to attend any of the workshops.

Afternoon Concert

The concluding concert will feature the University of Tennessee Studio Music & Jazz Faculty and Students in the Sandra G. Powell Recital Hall.
