Shelby Berkley

Shelby BerkleyShelby Berkley is a first-year Graduate Teaching Assistant pursuing a master's degree in Choral Conducting. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor's degree in music education. As an undergraduate, Mr. Berkley was a member of Chamber Singers, Men's Chorale, Concert Choir, UT Opera Theater and VOLume.  He studied private voice with Professor Andrew Wentzel and had the honor of directing VOLume and leading Men’s Chorale as their president. Mr. Berkley has been the Director of Choral Activities at West Valley Middle School. He has been a scholarship singer at Church Street United Methodist Church for four years, and recently was appointed as the music ministries intern. This appointment has enabled Mr. Berkley to assist in conducting the Parish Adult Choir, Youth Choir, Handbell Choir, and the Tennessee Brass Quintet in services and on tour in spaces such as Saint Patrick's Cathedral, New York. He is a proud member of the American Choral Directors Association, National Association of Music Educators, National Educators Association, and the Tennessee Music Educators Association.

Rachael Hopkins Suggs

Rachael SuggsRachael Suggs is a first-year Graduate Teaching Assistant pursuing a master’s degree in Choral Conducting. She graduated summa cum laude from Carson-Newman University in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in K-12 Music Education. Ms. Suggs studied voice with the late Dr. Angela Holder and has been involved in various ensembles both through her university studies and in the local Knoxville Community. She served as President of the Carson-Newman A Cappella Choir for the 2017-2018 academic year and was named the Presser Undergraduate Scholar for her achievements and growth as a student of music. After graduation, she served as the Interim Choir Director at Cherokee High School in Rogersville, Tennessee, directing multiple choirs and teaching a variety of music elective courses. Ms. Suggs is a proud member of Pi Kappa Lambda and the National Association for Music Education.

Bronwyn Clagett

Bronwyn ClaggetBronwyn Clagett is a first-year Graduate Teaching Assistant pursuing a master’s degree in Choral Conducting. She graduated with honors from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and a Minor in World Music. Since college, Ms. Clagett has also obtained certification in World Music Pedagogy from the Smithsonian Folkways Institute.

From 2017-2020, she served as the music teacher and choral director at Kingwood Elementary School in Preston County, West Virginia and founded the Kingwood Elementary Choir. Beginning in 2019, she additionally taught and founded the choral program at Central Preston Middle School. During her tenure, Ms. Clagett was an active and vocal supporter of the arts, securing grants totaling over $22,000 to support her programs and choirs. Also beginning in 2019, she served as an Executive Board Member of the West Virginia All-State Children’s Choir and as Vice President of the Society for General Music.

Ms. Clagett is an active choral singer and soloist. She sang with the West Virginia Community Choir and was a founding member of the Vox Principalis Choral Association, a 501(c)3 charitable organization based in Morgantown, West Virginiga, providing quality choral music to the area. She most recently served as the President of the Board of Directors of Vox Principalis. Ms.
Clagett also served as the Assistant Choir Director at Spruce Street United Methodist Church.

She is a proud member of the American Choral Directors Association, National Association for Music Education, American Orff Schulwerk-Association, and the West Virginia Music Educators Association.
