The School of Music moved into its home -  the Natalie L. Haslam Music Center – in July 2013.

The Music Center was dedicated September 12-13, 2013 with a concert and dedication ceremony. Read more about the festivities here.

The Natalie L. Haslam Music Center is located at 1741 Volunteer Boulevard at the intersection of Pat Head Summitt Street.

The UT School of Music's new state-of-the-art facility includes:

Building Hours

The Natalie L. Haslam Music Center is open during the following hours:

Music Students:

Note:  Due to COVID-19 protocols, students, faculty and staff will need to use their swipe card for entrance beginning at 5 p.m. Monday-Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday.

Non-Covid hours are:
    Monday-Friday: 6 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
    Saturday: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
    Sunday: 9 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

General Public:

Note:  Due to COVID-19 protocols, the bulding is closed to the general public at 5 p.m. Monday-Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday.

Non-Covid hours are:
    Monday-Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
    Saturday: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
    Sunday: Noon to 10 p.m.

The building is completely locked down to the general public on football home game days.  Regular access hours for faculty, staff, GTAs and music students is allowed via swipe card.

The building can be accessed via the outside doors on the ground and first floors. In addition, the building is also equipped with lockable doors to the hallways on the ground and first floors.

Sandra Powell Recital HallPerformance Halls

Performance facilities for music students include :

  • 400-seat Sandra Powell Recital Hall in the Natalie L. Haslam Music Center.
  • 977-seat James R. Cox Auditorium in the Alumni Memorial Building.

Practice Rooms

There are 45 practice rooms and other chamber and larger ensemble rooms in the Natalie L. Haslam Music Center.  They can be used by students enrolled in applied music at UT.

LibraryGeorge Devine Music Library - G004 NHMC

The George DeVine Music Library is in Room G004 of the Natalie L. Haslam Music Center. The library houses an extensive collection of 97,739 items including 32,794 scores, 22,237 audio recordings, 2,141video recordings, and over 400 online subscriptions to music resources, journals, and databases. The library's resources include knowledgeable staff and faculty who can assist users with their informational needs, a variety of computer and recording equipment that can be checked out for student use, specialized indexes to UT's music collections, online resources such as Groves Music Online, Music Periodicals Database, Oxford Music Online, and several video and audio-streaming databases.

Computer Lab - G011 NHMC

Computer LabThe computer lab consists of 19 Mac computers each equipped with a MIDI Keyboard and software for music notation, sequencing, ear training, and marching band techniques, as well as general office software. The computers and software are updated on a regular basis through the University Technology Fee funds.

Music Learning Center (Tutoring Center) - G017 NHMC

Tutoring CenterStudents have access to one-on-one tutoring to help them in music theory, ear training/aural skills, and musicology classes. Tutors are available for one time or continuous help.
