Concerts and Events

The School of Music at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville offers more than 200 performances and events each year. Unless otherwise noted, all concerts are FREE and open to the public. Most concerts and events will be in one of three performance halls on campus: Sandra G. Powell Recital Hall in the Natalie L. Haslam Music Center located at 1741 Volunteer Boulevard; James R. Cox Auditorium and Performance Hall 32, both in the Alumni Memorial Building located at 1408 Middle Drive.

Events for January 2018

  • KSO Principal Woodwinds and Strings Concert
    Guest artist recital; performing Barber's Summer Music, Foote's Nocturne and Scherzo for Flute and String Quartet, and Beethoven's Septet in E-flat major, Op.20. Members of the Principal Quartet are Gordon Tsai, violin; Edward Pulgar, violin; Kathryn Gawne, viola; Andy Bryenton, cello. Members of the Woodwind Quintet are Hannah Hammel, flute; Claire Chenette, oboe; Gary Sperl, clarinet; Aaron Apaza, bassoon; Jeffery Whaley, French Horn. All students grades K-12 can attend this concert FREE with purchase of one adult ticket as part of the Penny4Arts program. Up to 3 students per adult ticket; some restrictions apply. Must redeem by visiting or calling the KSO Box Office at 865-291-3310 prior to the day of the concert (M-F, 9-5). Offer not available online or at the door.   • Behind the Music: Raiders of the Lost Ark; lecture
    Faculty lecture by Maestro James Fellenbaum -- Director of Orchestras at UT, and Resident Conductor of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra -- on John Williams’ famous music to Raiders of the Lost Ark. Attend this free preview event to watch some scenes from the film, and hear how the music impacts — and even changes — each scene. Maestro Fellenbaum will also describe what makes this music so great and enduring, and how the music of John Williams has changed how we hear music in the movies. This event is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
