Concerts and Events

The School of Music at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville offers more than 200 performances and events each year. Unless otherwise noted, all concerts are FREE and open to the public. Most concerts and events will be in one of three performance halls on campus: Sandra G. Powell Recital Hall in the Natalie L. Haslam Music Center located at 1741 Volunteer Boulevard; James R. Cox Auditorium and Performance Hall 32, both in the Alumni Memorial Building located at 1408 Middle Drive.

  • Young Pianist Series: Chang-Yong Shin
    Guest artist recital; Chang-Yong Shin is the first in the 2017 Evelyn Miller Young Pianist Series, bringing today's top young pianistic talent to the Knoxville stage. Shin was the First Prize winner of the 2016 Hilton Head International Piano Competition, one of many recent awards. Dr. Douglas Humpherys, Chair of the Piano Department at the Eastman School of Music, said about Mr. Shin, “He is a pianist with passionate expression and profound artistry, representative of the best among his generation!” Tickets: $25 for adults. Children and students are free. College-aged students will be asked to show a school ID.

  • Acoustic Environment of National Parks
    Guest lecture; Scott McFarland, Regional Resource Specialist and Biologist with the Natural Sounds and Night Skies Division of the National Park Service, will cover acoustic resource management and protection within National Park Service managed lands and beyond. He will discuss methods and techniques for conducting acoustic monitoring, acoustic data analysis, protecting the acoustic environment, wildlife vocalizations and impacts to humans and wildlife from anthropogenic noise. This lecture is in conjunction with the graduate seminar, Music, Soundscapes, and the Environment and is sponsored by the Haines Morris Grant and the UT School of Music. This lecture is free and open to the public.
