Choral Graduate Teaching Assistants

Roxanne Cabrera

Roxanne CabreraRoxanne Cabrera is a second-year Graduate Teaching Assistant pursuing a master’s degree in Choral Conducting. A native of Knoxville, she graduated from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor of music degree in vocal music education and a minor in flute, summa cum laude. She has been a member of the Pride of the Southland Marching Band, UT Concert Band, UT Concert Choir, UT Chamber Singers, and the UT School of Music Student Ambassadors.

In addition to her activities at UT, Ms. Cabrera has served as a scholarship musician, conductor, and administrative assistant to the music programs at Sacred Heart Cathedral. She is currently Director of Music at Luminary United Methodist Church. She has conducted the Seymour High School and Seymour Middle School ensembles, who consistently achieve Superior ratings at their respective choral festivals. Ms. Cabrera is a member of the American Choral Directors Association and has represented UT at the Tennessee Music Educators Association All-State Collegiate Honors Choir. She is also a company member with the Tennessee Valley Players.

Becca Smith

Becca SmithBecca Smith is a first-year Graduate Teaching Assistant in Choral Conducting. She graduated magna cum laude dfrom Roberts Wesleyan College with a bachelor of science degree in music education. While at Roberts, she was vicepresident of choral activities, assistant coordinator of the local All-County Conference, section leader of the Women’s Choir and Roberts Wesleyan Chorale, and was inducted into the Alpha Sigma Kappa honor society. Ms. Smith studied choral conducting with David Chin. After graduating in December of 2014, she was a substitute teacher in the local districts and worked at the Special Event and Audition Coordinator for the Roberts Wesleyan Music Department. She has conducted the Roberts Wesleyan Chorale, Churchville Chili’s Concert Choir, Mixed Choir, and Elementary Choir, ‘Off the Beat’ a cappella group, and assisted with the New Covenant Community Choir. Ms. Smith has had students participate in various conferences and honor choirs including All-County, Area-All State, All-State, and the Nationals.

She is a member of the American Choral Directors Association.
